A Holistic Process Approach, will open the conference at 9:00 am on Tuesday, April 10, and will share the results from two case studies which show that both capability, the ability to form printed circuit features successfully, and quality, the degree to which those features conform to specification, must be satisfied before initiating via hole reliability studies. Many times, the manufacturing process is not controlled which can lead to significant variability in capability and quality, and erroneous reliability predictions. Relying on reliability studies alone can give a false-positive indication of a given printed circuit suppliers perceived capabilities. The information for these case studies was collected from data recorded in the Process Capability, Quality and Relative Reliability (PCQR2) Database. The PCQR2 Database, a partnership between CAT and IPC, is the international standard for comparing process capability, quality, and reliability of PCB suppliers. Initiated in 2001, the database averages 60 submissions per year from 40 different globally based PCB manufacturing facilities.
